January 30 UniOhhh the horror... two more weeks, then O-week, then *drumroll*... uni!! Bleh. Uni is overrated... I don't wanna go back :'( I have to do mentor training... eesh, what did I volunteer to do that for anyway...? And I have to get my text books... enroll in another subject... finalise timetable (as much as I can before first week of lectures).. aaaargh :'(
Sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it. I mean, is it? Sure, for careers/ degrees like medicine, engineering, IT, education, health, degrees are pretty necessary. But, I mean, humanities... why is it there? It's like it's this friendly looking opportunity for unaware grade 12s, then it snaps them up and snares them and goes "Mwahahaha, I have you now...!!" Even some of the business degrees sound the same. I mean, are these degrees actually going to help? It's like so many people go to uni coz it's the "safe" thing to do, you're sticking to the safe side by doing that. But uni doesn't guarantee a job. And so many employers couldn't care less if you've been to uni or not, they're more interested in your other attributes.
I actually weighed up the options of staying in uni or dropping out late one night a few nights ago. If I stumbled across a job that really appealed to me, then I think I'd consider dropping out a lot more seriously. Oh, but then you get the whingers "You're so clever, why waste it not getting a higher education?" or "But uni opens so many more doors and opportunities!" But really, does it? Grrrr. I'm not saying I hate uni by any means... I really enjoy the uni life, but I look at the work I'm doing there, then think, is this actually useful?
Just something to think about.
Sorry if I've scared any grade 12s out there who've been partying for the last 3 weeks coz they got into their first preference course.
:P
PS. Andre and Joel, watch where you tread with your comments on this one!! *glare* :P January 23 Quiz, Courtesy of Sash
January 22 The J Block GroupWell, I have come to realise lately (having been away) just how much I miss my old school friends, especially the J Block Group. Unfortunately I don't get to see many of them often, mainly because most of the social stuff they do is on Friday nights when I can't make it, or our time tables clash at uni. Anyways, I thought I would just say a little "thankyou" to each and every one of the J Block Gang for the great time I had in grade 11 and 12.
My Wonderful Highschool Companion: Kara- Where do I start. As Kate said so brilliantly, you are the Karatecht. The inventor of all Matrix humour (GO Trinity Tonight!!) and your humour is the reason for a large percentage of grade 11 and 12's hilarity. Even when you felt sick you still came to school and made us laugh. Thankyou for making care, chemistry, biology, art, and english a blast, thankyou for the crazy not-much-sleep overs and for being someone to talk to. Keep getting better and all the best for the future!
Clarinetist Extraordinaire: Sarani- Another person with whom I don't know where to start! My music buddy who helped me through the typical boy problems of senior, thankyou for listening. Thankyou so much for your help (and distraction) in maths B, I couldn't have done it without you. Your dedication to your music throughout school was inspiring, and thankyou for the laughs that we shared. All the best in your vet course!
Moulin Rouge Obsessive: Kate- Aaah, my Moulin Rouge buddy. Thankyou for all humour MR, where does it come from? Such apparently innocent (ok, that is WAY too strong a word) characters and stories twisted for our amusement. Thankyou for the laughs during Ancient History, you made it so much fun. I don't know how Miss Lynch survived us. And oh, the Monty Python humour. Look what it did to us! :P Thanks for keeping me company in Tuesday arvo Maths tute. All the best in IT :)
Monty Python Converter: Katherine- She who converted me to the ways of Monty Python humour! Thankyou for the laughs of high school! You are such a talented and inspiring artist, it was amazing watching you work in art. The other "field decorator"... oh the bludgingness of grade 10 Phys Ed! (I can't even remember what we called it.) Good luck for the future Katherine :)
Evanescence Enthusiast: Marnie- First and foremost, thankyou so much for you and Sarani going to the trouble of organising Kara's and my surprise 16th party. It meant so much to me, and we had such a blast. Thankyou for also getting me through Care on a daily basis and for the many laughs throughout senior. All the best for uni :)
"Don't smile!" James- The (almost) constantly bubbling source of smiles and energy, except when he had a physics or Maths C assignment due. Thanks for the laughs in english with evil Miss Fish. Another inspiring musician, you were truly amazing to watch play, especially as Imp 1!! (Was it 1? Whoops :D) Thanks for the company during Tuesday arvo Maths tute. Thankyou for looking out for me on occasion, and for being the other "responsible one" of the group.
"But what about my appointment?" John- Sorry Kate, I just had to use your name for John here. It applies so well. Thankyou so much for the laughs of high school John. You made biology and maths B so much fun, the high lighter wars were great. Thanks for keeping me company during Pimlico Presents! Oh the crazy card games in the basement... And oh, the stick wars. I swear, any that hit you in the head were not intentional. You and Scott provided us with much entertainment. All the best for the future. And PS. 10c won't even get you 2 minutes ;)
"Why, what were you guys thinking? Ewww, you guys!!!" Matt- The master of all things suss and random, and the J Block member I have known the longest (10 years, I think it is.) As Kate said, you had such an inspiring lack of concern for school, which, I think, was how you managed to spend half your time keeping the rest of us entertained in class. Thankyou for getting me through Maths B throughout grade 12, I think I owe you for getting me through it as much as I owe Sarani. Thanks also for keeping me company in Maths tute on Tuesday arvos. Thanks for the laughs, and no, we are not all as sus as you :P Good luck for the future :)
IT Extraordinaire: David- ah yes, one of the many IT nerds of the group. Thankyou for your contribution to the group and the many, many laughs. Probably the J Block member I have known the second longest (7 years?) Thankyou for your brains during study sessions, I seriously owe it to you smart people in the group that I passed everything in senior. Thankyou, and all the best for the future.
The giggler: Daniel- yes, he is the only guy in the group who giggled. Only one of the ways you made me laugh. Not to mention the way you try to stir people up just for the heck of it... :P Thankyou for the laughs and hugs during senior and into uni, all the best for the future.
Epileptic Flash Creator: Wade- Again, thanks for the help during study sessions Wade! I would never have passed grade 12 if it weren't for the J Block group helping me study!! Thanks for the various squishy/bouncy balls that managed to keep people entertained, it was lots of fun :) Good luck at uni.
Scott- oh where would we be without Scott. Right here. Scott is Scott, and funnily enough, the laughs come from his clashes with Kara and/or John. An interesting yet endlessly amusing addition to the group. Thankyou, Scott.
Thankyou, each and everyone of you for the experience that senior was, it wouldn't have been half as fun if it weren't for you. I miss you all and can't wait to catch up whenever :) January 20 I'm Back!!Heeeey Everyone! Yup, I'm back, YAY. I missed you all! I had a great time over the holidays... first I went to NTE in Canberra and Sydney, which was awesome. Thankyou to everyone I had in my mission group, you were a great bunch. I believe they were (from memory), Marnie (thanks for the impromptu music sessions), Krissy (the war is not over!!), James, Talia, Mark (thanks for the discussions!! ;) ), Naomi, Craig, Michelle P, Scooter, Sarah, Michelle A, Esther, Jon (thanks for letting us girls drag you through the shopping centre), Marte-Lise, and Bek.
Next I flew to Perth where Aunty Loraine's sister picked me up and showed me round for a while before I got on the coach for the eleven hour trip to Monkey Mia where my family was waiting for me. And from there, it was a family road trip from Monkey Mia, down the coast, across the southern coast, up to Kalgoorlie, across to SA, along the SA coast, up through NSW and QLD back home. Including the trip it took my family to drive across to Monkey Mia (lucky me missed out on that part), it was almost an 18,000 km journey. It was long, fun, and I missed everyone (especially Andre, Heidi, Jessie, and Kara)!!!!
Thankyou SO MUCH to those who sent me birthday wishes on my birthday when I was clear over the other side of the country. (I spent my birthday in Albany, WA.) These are Heidi (via SMS- thankyou Heidi, it meant so much to me!!), Caitlin (via SMS- I love you too!!!), Mel (via e-mail- loved hearing from you!), Donna (via e-mail- MISS YOU DONNA!!!), Jessie (via e-mail- thankyou so much Jess, that email meant so much to me) and of course Andre (via mobile- GOT TO TALK TO HIM, YAY!!!)
The highlights of the holiday was the awesome scenery and wildlife we saw. We saw spectacular cliffs and waves, and we also saw dolphins, sea lions, and seals, all in the wild. We also saw feral foxes and goats up close which was a first for me, which was kinda cool even though the are ruining our country :P Oh, and we saw a suicidal hawk. It refused to get off the road and abandon its meal, even when we almost ran over it and had to swerve at the last minute. And the caravan came off the tow ball another time, made a huge racket and almost gave us a heart attack. And we saw a caravan which had come straight off its axle. Not nice. Bet that would have made more of a racket than our caravan coming off the towball.
Anyway, I will head off now and write more later coz if I write too much more people will just look at this huge entry and say "stuff that, I'm not reading all that." Which a majority of the population is probably going to do anyway. |
